BOA Announces Honor Band for 2009 Rose Parade

BOA Announces Honor Band for 2009 Rose Parade

By Eddie Carden

Ever dreamt of marching in the Rose Parade? Bands of America (BOA) plans to offer 300 high school musicians the opportunity to come together as part of the BOA Honor Band for the 2009 Tournament of Roses. Music for All received an official invitation from the Tournament of Roses during the BOA Grand Nationals this past November.

The application deadline for the 2009 Honor Band is March 15, 2008, and audition recordings are due March 28. The band is open to all high school band members, including those graduating in spring 2008.

To prepare for the parade, the band will gather starting Dec. 27, 2008, for practice. Members will also participate in a number of activities and performances in the days leading up to Jan. 1. The band will enjoy two days at Disneyland, guided tours of Los Angeles, Beverly Hills and Hollywood, a New Year’s Eve party and, of course, the Rose Parade.

BOA last performed at the Tournament of Roses in 2006 when it rained—literally—on the honor band’s parade. The 2006 Rose Parade came on a rainy day for the first time since 1955, breaking a 51-year streak of good weather for the event.
