Top 10 Marching Moments of 2008: Nominations

Halftime Magazine is assembling your thoughts about 2008's Top 10 Marching Moments. These moments could involve bands or marching ensembles in college, high school, drum corps, indoor percussion, winter guard, pageantry/parade, all-age groups or any type of marching activity.

Just post your thoughts in the comments section of this page by Saturday, Feb. 28. Then, read the final top 10 list in our March/April 2009 issue. If we're lucky, we will also upload videos of these greatest moments.

    4. Carolina Crown cross-to-cross ending
    5. Blue Devils stick man (when the hornline does it)
    6. Santa Clara Vanguard waves in the rectangle section of cloudburst
    7. Cavaliers compressing/expanding blocks
    8. The Cadets hornline drill during the drum feature.
    9. Cavaliers about halfway through the show when they do the wave into the single line, then make a snake with it

    Someone other than James Logan winning Scholastic World at WGI.
    [Of course, Logan wasn't there, but still, after 347 years of winning, it was nice that someone else got to take home a gold medal for a change.]
    Phantom Regiment winning DCI based on their music scores.

    8.Blue devils being able to run out of a set and go to a random spot on the field and make the upcoming set still look great.

    In no particular order:
    1. Jersey Surf's opening brass hit and pink clad guard members.
    2. Cavalier Anniversary Corps show utilizing the snake move and then Cavaliers doing the same.
    3. Santa Clara's 2nd tune with lots of body movement and funny interesting dance moves by the horns.
    4. Cavalier's running and jumping move.
    5. Phantom coming onto the field and the bass drum solo behind the final corps yell of "I am Sparticus."
    6. Blue Knight's bass drum solo in the ballad tune.
    7. Velvet Knight's drum majors death scene.
    8. Glassmen's balloon tune.
    9. Blue Devil's varied uses of the long poles to frame their drill
    10. Citation's opener music and drill.

    1. Phantom taking 1st at DCI Finals....Wow!
    2. Blue Stars making DCI Finals
    3. Cavaliers show period.....Super wow!
    4. Phantom DM taking Guard Member during finals show and throwing so hard on ground she bounced (I swear she did...) and her getting back up in time with others after about 20 sec...Ok, It was a dark show but perfect for Phantom..
    5. Watching Marion Catholic, Avon, Broken Arrow and LD Bell at BOA Grand Nationals
    6. Cadets DCI Show.....
    7. Cadets being in Presidential Inauguration Parade
    8. Colts being in Presidential Inauguration Parade
    9. Being there for Western Carolina University performance at BOA Grand National Semis - The first note from horn line blew be off my chair....:->
    10. Being there at MSBA AA finals as little 'ole Columbia City, IN band took the field with major marching and playing attitude and took home a 2nd...

    The Marching Southerners from JSU's From Russia with Love show- specifically, the drum feature where the cymbal players had to jump up above the rest of the drum line. Lost their plumes almost every time, but it was worth it.

    i seem to have missed the deadline, but the post still exists so I'll try. In no particular order:
    -The Ohio State University Marching Band's dotting of the "i".
    -The end of Phantom Regiment's 2008 show (from the "I AM SPARTACUS" drum major spearing on)
    -The Bottle Dance/color guard knee drop from Vanguard's Fiddler on the Roof
    -Auburn University and University of Alabama's mass band performance to honor our nation following September 11
    -The Lesbian and Gay Band Association breaking down barriers by performing at President Obama's inauguration
    -The Photo Finish in Carolina Crown's Triple Crown show
    -The "matrix" dodge from Cavaliers' Samurai show
    -Grambling's World Famed Tiger Marching Band as stormtroopers in the Tournament of Roses Parade with John Williams as the grand marshall
    -Alexis I. duPont High School's "Drum Major's Glory" in which the drum major rises up form the center of the band
    -Florida A&M's Marching 100 becoming the first HBCU awarded with the Sudler Trophy in 1985
