Vandoren V21 Clarinet Reed

Vandoren V21 Clarinet Reed

For more than a century, Vandoren has been dedicated to crafting the ideal reeds for clarinetists. Now, the company is adding one more option to its already expansive array of offerings with the introduction of the V21.

“Vandoren is always listening to musicians, looking for ways to meet their needs,” says Michael Fenoglio, Vandoren product specialist. “This was just another project for Vandoren, kind of an experiment, and this is the result.”

The V21 is a combination of two already-existing Vandoren products, the V12 and V56. “It’s cut from the blank of the V56, which is thicker, and has the profile of the V12, so what you get is a reed that has immediate response but also has some of the darker depth from the characteristics of the V56,” Fenoglio says.

The name “V21” is an ode to this duality, signifying the reeds two-in-one nature.

Various musicians, including Diana Haskell and Martin Frost, have tested the V21. Praise has been given for the warmth of the reeds’ sound and its’ responsiveness.

The V21 is currently available for B-flat clarinet in sizes 2.5, 3, 3.5, 3.5+, 4, 4.5 and 5. For more information, visit www.vandoren-en.com.
