Remo Drummer Night Benefits Teenage Cancer Trust

Sixteen world-class drummers came together to perform at the Remo Drummer Night in London to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Sixteen world-class percussionists performed in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) on June 14 at the Remo Drummer Night in London. Percussionist Pete Lockett opened the show with drummers from the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance.

Featured drummers included: Andrew Small (Kylie Moniogue/Massive Attack), Karl Brazil, (James Blunt), Geoff Dugmore (UK Session Great), Simon Hanson (Squeeze), Paul Stewart (The Feeling), Jojo Mayer (Nerve), Trevor Lawrence Jr. (Snoop Dogg, Alicia Keys), Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Paul Mason, Mark Schulman (Cher, Pink), Andy Newmark (Bryan Ferry/Roxy Music), Ian Matthews (Kasabian), James Hester (Malakai), Cherisse Osei (Mika), Jerry Brown (Girls Aloud), Neal Wilkinson (Van Morrison) and Steve White (Paul Weller).

The drummers performed their favorites songs along with a house band. After his performance, Schulman, a cancer survivor, gave a moving speech and praised the charity for its work. In the unique finale, all of the drummers took the stage with eight drumsets.

The event also featured an auction including a 50th anniversary Remo gold snare drum signed by all participating artists as well as items donated by Phil Collins (Genesis), Stewart Copeland (The Police), Nicko McBrain (Iron Maiden) and a snare drum donated by Nigel Olsson also signed by Elton John.

“A huge effort by a musical army made this event happen,” says Gary Mann of Remo Europe. “The end result was fantastic music, an amazing show and a huge success for Teenage Cancer Trust.”

The Teenage Cancer Trust builds specialist teenage units in hospitals. “We are delighted to be the chosen charity for Drummers Night,” says Simon Davies, chief executive for TCT. “The PR generated for TCT and the number of new friends we made at the event will really help our influence in the music business – which can only be great for TCT. … It’s a privilege to have the support of Remo Europe.”

The event was also supported by DW, Gretsch, Mapex, Pearl, Premier, Sonor, Tama, Yamaha, Meinl, Paiste, Sabian, Zildjian,Vic Firth, London Drum Company, Music Bank, Tour Supply, and Crowne Plaza Hotels.
