All-American Band

Ever dreamt of being an All-American? Now you don’t have to put on 150 pounds and join the football team to do it. For the first time, high school musicians can become All-Americans. Reston, Va.-based MENC: The National Association for Music Education and Addison, Ill.-based Drum Corps International teamed up with the U.S. Army to establish the inaugural All-American Marching Band, which will perform at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio on Jan. 5, 2008. The application deadline was May 25, and the 90 members will be announced in the fall. The band will be directed by Bob Buckner of Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, N.C.
