Women in DCI Initiative

To provide support to women in the marching arts, Drum Corps International (DCI) launched “IN STEP: Women in DCI,” an initiative that promotes women’s opportunities and successes.

The program will support women in drum corps by sponsoring events and trainings, highlighting women’s achievements, and making policy changes, says committee chair Kathy Black.

DCI launched the program on March 8, International Women’s Day, and is working on a new event that will occur during the week of DCI World Championships in Indianapolis this coming August.

One of the goals is to increase the number of women in DCI, whether it be marching members, instructors, directors, or board members, Black notes. “We don’t have the … numbers of women in leadership roles that we would expect based on the number of women who march, so we want to move forward and understand why,” she says.
