The Launch of Blue Knights Winds

Blue Knights Winds

Blue Knights WindsAscend Performing Arts, parent company of the Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps, has launched a Winds group for the upcoming 2018 to 2019 indoor season.

Blue Knights Winds will include brass, woodwind, percussion, and visual performers. The ensemble will compete within the Rocky Mountain Percussion Association and WGI Sport of the Arts.

The organization recruited through in-person and video auditions and began rehearsals on Nov. 11. Its first competition will be at the WGI Denver Regional on March 9.

The Blue Knights had attempted to establish a brass ensemble in the past; however, lack of competitive opportunities caused the group to fizzle out. The WGI winds division, which has existed since 2015, brought new life to this concept within the Blue Knights.

“Blue Knights have cultivated this identity of being innovators,” says Abraham Eng, Blue Knights Winds program director. “We want to make sure that the students have an engaging, challenging performance opportunity.”
