Band Competes After Extreme Bus Fire

The Norman (Okla.) High School band escaped from a bus inferno this weekend. Forty-three students escaped safely from the bus before it burned down. Although the band lost many uniforms and some instruments, they competed in a field competition later that night.

From KSWO:

“We took a band vote and we all had the general consensus to go on and perform and do the best we could,” said the band’s drum major.

Minutes before the bus went up in flames, one band member’s father rushed to save as much as he could…But soon the fire took over every inch of the bus. And because many of the uniforms were lost, they decided to ditch them all together.

But the band was happy with the performance they put on despite having such a stressful day. They were also thankful for the support of other area schools.

“I want to get home and have everybody figure out what they are going to do next,” said the drum major.
