Wins EmmyBy Eddie Carden Choreographer Mia Michaels won “Outstanding Choreography” at the Emmys just a few days before appearing as the featured clinician at WGI Sport of the Arts’ Spinfest!! Michaels received the award Sept. 8 for her involvement with the hit TV series “So You Think You Can Dance.” She appeared less than a week later at WGI’s Spinfest!! to help winter guard instructors refine their choreography and color guard techniques. Spinfest!!, which took place Sept. 14-15 in Orlando, Fla., is an annual educational event for winter guard directors. The event helps “instructors with all aspects of designing and managing of a successful winter guard program,” according to WGI’s website. The award came during Michaels’ third season on “So You Think You Can Dance” as both featured choreographer and judge. She has previously been nominated for an Emmy for her work on “Celine in Las Vegas: Opening Night Live.” For more information, visit www.wgi.org/spinfest07. |
