NAMM's Music Monday

On May 4, 2009, students across North America participated in Music Monday, which centered around a continent-wide performance of Serena Ryder’s “Sing Sing.” Organizers believe the simultaneous performance, involving more than 700,000 students, symbolically demonstrates the power of music education.

NAMM, an association unifying the global music products industry, helped sponsor the celebration for the second year. Music Monday was originally started in 2005 by the Coalition for Music Education in Canada.

Music Monday opened National Wanna Play Music Week, which took place from May 4 to 8. For more information about the event and how to become involved in music education, visit www.supportmusic.com. And mark your calendars for next year’s Music Monday on May 3, 2010.
