The University of Texas at Tyler is currently in the process of recruiting students for it’s first marching band. Member recruitment will continue until the fall where marching band will be offered as a class.
UT Tyler Performing Arts Director Michael Thrasher reports that the universities administrators believe that the formation of the band will help advance the university in a variety of ways.
According to Thrasher, most of the local high schools in the area already have high school bands so as the program expands in the coming years, finding new students won’t be a problem. Many of these students also want to be high school music educators so having a band to gain experience from will be a great future boon to the UT Tyler program.
Marching bands are also critical components of increasing the visibility of a University in the community.
Not only that, but a marching band is one of the best ways to enhance any student college experience.
